H1N1 Vaccine Information

September 21, 2009

H1N1 vaccine is being produced and will be distributed by the Pennsylvania Department of Health to school, hospitals, pharmacies and doctors offices who have registered with the Department of Health.

In Wayne County agencies have developed a coordinated plan for giving the vaccine.

According to CDC (Center for Disease Control) groups with priority to receive the vaccine first include those:

  1. 6 months - 24 years old (highest priority 6 months to 4 years old)
  2. Household contacts and caregivers for children younger than 6 months of age
  3. Pregnant Women
  4. Adults older than 24 years with chronic health conditions which increase their risk of complications from influenza such as asthma and lung diseases, heart disease, and diabetes.
  5. Healthcare and Emergency Services personnel

Pediatric Practices of Northeastern Pennsylvania (PPNP) has agreed to give the vaccine to children from 6 months old until they have entered kindergarten. The 3 Wayne County school districts have agreed to give vaccine to children enrolled in their schools. Wayne Memorial Hospital, area pharmacies, and other medical offices in the area will also be giving vaccine.

PPNP has requested the vaccine and has not yet received it from the Department of Health.

We cannot say exactly when we will receive it or how many doses we will receive. No shortage of 2009 H1N1 vaccine is expected, but vaccine availability and demand can be unpredictable and there is some possibility that initially, the vaccine will be available in limited quantities.

If you would like to be notified when vaccine is available,
please make sure the front desk has your correct email address and/or
fill out a postcard to be notified by regular mail.
